No gender equality is not easily achieved especially in an environment where the people are said to believe their customs. In relation to this there should be gender sensitization which will enable them to understand the definition and concepts of gender.

When we talk of gender, many people understand it as the biological features of male or female which means Sex. Gender is the roles individual both male or female play in society by culture, religion, beliefs in an environment they find themselves.
Example in some communities women are considered as dependent on men.

Good morning to all, Iā€™m Eric Opa Doue the Manager of Echo Radio (Liberia):
Gender can also be referred to ā€˜roles and responsibilitiesā€™ society places on an individual base on the personā€™s biological make-up. This is different from one society to another.

My question is: Why is it important to take gender concerns into account in programme design and implementation? ā€¦

Happy New Year Every body.My name is John Kabambala, I am a journalist and childrenā€™s program organizer.
I work with UN Radio here in Tanzania.

Gender equality many years ago was not considered and was not given priority as a matter of importance as well.

As the days go by the understanding and distinction of this phenomenon is seen in society, the biggest victims of this gender right are women of all ages.

At this time girls can now stand up in their communities and articulate the need and demand their rights, girls and women are given leadership positions at various levels in government and non-governmental organizations.

This is the result of various stakeholders fighting for human rights, especially women.

So gender equality is the equality given to and shared in everything that a human being deserves, regardless of gender.

Happy new year to you too. We are glad you joined us. Indeed long time ago people knew nothing about gender equality, they just followed tradition of understanding that men had more rights than women. Things are changing nowadays but even so, there is still a lot to learn.

We are looking forward to learning more from you through sharing experiences on your work especially regarding gender issues.

First of all Happy New Year every body. My name is John Kabambala, am a journalist works with UN Radio -Swahili Unit in Tanzania.

Mostly am prepared childrenā€™s Radio Program about Sustainable Nutrition, etc, the media in collaboration with the agricultural community will be very helpful to the farmer, how to prepare the field, seeds, to know the climate change and even how to better distribute, fish or other livestock.

For example, in my program, when I prepare a topic on the importance of focusing on nutrition for children and pregnant mothers.

In this topic should find a nutritionist, Dr. maternal and child health, as well as the agricultural officer because Nutrition starts in the field, so that the education provided here is reliable and good partnership to help the community. So the benift of broadcasters is see his/her program successfully and emprovement in the community.

Gender equality issues need also to be tackled through our schools especially basic and high schools, the need to educate both students on how to develop oneself irrespective of our biology makeups, through career development or curriculum. It is all about knowledge acquisition and resources available

I like the point of engaging both sexes when it come to gender. The word gender deals with both sexes first before women and children.

Now if we want to deal with one aspect of gender which is women then we can do that and see what affect one element of the gender (women)

My name is Isaac Kwesi Mintah - a journalist, working as Radio Craft Officer for Farm Radio International in Accra, Ghana.

I am glad I find myself here as a participant on gender-related issues.

Gender Equality, from my perspective, refers to how any given environment makes available a level playing field for both women and men to participate in decision-making and develop their potentials. In other words, a system that ensures that no girl or boy, man or woman is looked down upon, relegated to the background or discriminated against, on grounds of their biological make-up.

I look forward to picking vital lessons from the contributions of others.

Gender equality is where everyone (both the male and female) has the opportunity to access which is meant for him or her, be it Political, economy or other resources equally.
