Hello. My name is Joe Wacha. I work as a Station Manager at Voice of Karamoja, a radio station in Eastern Uganda. One of the funniest ad I have ever listened to is one where a Landlord knocked at the door of one of his Tenants to demand for rent but once the Tenant learnt it was the Landlord, he immediately changed his voice and started telling the Landlord that the real Tenant was not around. The ad was about a promo in which listeners could win prizes including land and a house.

I look forward to the discussions and sharing experiences. Thank you.

Dear Boss (Hajjat Rehema Ndagire),

Some typing error. But some correction here please for some of our colleagues in the platform:

UBC Butebo does not only do eight programmes; they are more than this depending on the day and schedule. UBC Butebo is one of the UBC Radio channels/stations. UBC Butebo broadcasts in eight native languages and English. So it has nine languages. All these come in different schedules and time slots throughout the week. UBC Butebo covers parts of central Uganda, parts of north western Uganda and the entire Eastern region of Uganda.

Thank you.

I also forgot to mention that I am interested in being added to the WhatsApp group, the number is +256 782084052 and my twitter handle is:@carthyapah.

Thanks and am excited to be part of this forum.

Hi @Al_Bert

Welcome to Barza. We are happy to have you here. I am smiling as I read about the advert. I imagine how the candidate was feeling, if he never thought the advert discredited him somehow.

Hi, am mpoki japhet from baraka fm mbeya tanzania Am radio presenter

thanks!

An advert I consider funny was one at a certain station. Someone had to laugh at friend who did not know where to advertise. The actor who failed to laugh and the advert sounded clear that it was a fake laugh.

Helo everyone. I am Rosemary from Nairobi, Kenya. I love radio largely because it is readily accessible to everyone but more so those who live in rural areas. The topic on ‘generating revenue to support a regular farmer program’ is quite relevant to me as a farmer and also my institution’s radio station, Shine 103.1FM.

I am usually very busy but this discussion is worth my time. I look forward to a more fruitful engagement over the four weeks.

The advert I found annoying yet ended up influencing me was about a driving school called ROCKY. The announcer simply says, ROCKY, ROCKY, ROCKY. ROCKY driving school and computer college in a monotonous voice. I hated this advert yet when my son asked me about a driving school and I found myself only thinking of ROCKY. Of course, he ended up at Rocky driving school. So adverts can also be ‘irritating’ or ‘strange’ to sell?

Hello Brenda @Mugwisagye

Welcome to Barza, we are happy to have you here and looking forward to the discussion. I can imagine the old man trying to run after a hen to show hospitality. I wonder if the advert achieved it’s intention, I know in my village, older people still believe in slaughtering something to welcome people. They do not consider it a warm welcome if it is bought from the shops. Somehow it has something to do with certain beliefs.

Hello @mbwambo

Welcome to Barza. We are glad to have you on board and we believe we will enjoy the discussion and learn from each other.

Hello Catherine @MamaFm

Welcome to Barza. We are happy to have you here. I am interested in hearing more about the women’s radio. Does it only cater for women issues?

The advert is quite funny, seemingly the parents are not ready for those expenses yet, :)

Hi Esther @mwangabula
